The aim of the partnership between University Hospital Frankfurt and Chattogram Medical College Hospital is to develop and apply diagnostic methods and intensive care therapeutic procedures in both training and patient care in Bangladesh. Background: Snakebite poisoning particularly affects the socio-economically disadvantaged rural population in Bangladesh. Imaging and endoscopy facilities are vital for diagnosing and treating patients who have been bitten, as is training doctors in how to use them. At Chattogram Medical College Hospital, however, these facilities are only available in the mornings. As a result, patients requiring examinations or treatment during the night cannot receive the care they need. Activities: - Acquiring medicines and equipment, including an ultrasound machine - Providing a two-day training session to technicians in maintaining the acquired ultrasound machine - Providing accompanying training sessions for three doctors in preventing and diagnosing diseases with the aid of ultrasound Impact: The setting up of the skills lab provides hospital staff with a greater knowledge of various diagnostic and therapeutic techniques, allowing diseases to be diagnosed at an early stage. In the long term, the project contributes to improved medical care for patients with snakebite poisoning.
