Comprehensive Cancer Centers Upper Myanmar ( Surgery)

Health Partnerships – GlobalSurgery
The partnership project between the University Clinic Regensburg and the University of Medicine, Mandaly in Myanmar aims to construct a Comprehensive Cancer Centers Upper Myanmar with a focus on surgery. Problem: According to WHO data, Myanmar is facing increasing instances of morbidity and mortality attributed to tumors of the mouth and throat. These cancers are the leading causes of cancer-related deaths among men and women. In the target region, early diagnosis and prevention programs are sparse. Thus, the diagnosis of tumor disorders often occurs in late stages of the disease. The treatment of these cases poses immense challenges for doctors in Myanmar. Main Activities: Frequent hands-on courses in Myanmar and mutual exchanges between partners will result in an intense information exchange and education of micro- and super-microsurgery. Micro-instruments and magnifying glasses will be acquired. Short-Term Effects: The medical personnel at the UMMDY is trained in surgical oncology and receives functioning micro-instruments. Long-Term Effects: Patients profit from professionally executed microsurgery.
