The German foundation, Vivantes Stiftung maintains a partnership with the Dr. A.B. May Cancer Centre in Windhoek, Namibia. They have the common goal to improve the quality of care among Neutropenia patients in Namibia. Problem: Namibia faces the double-burden of widespread communicable and non-communicable diseases (NCDs). Over the last years, the fight against communicable diseases has been of primary concern, thus, neglecting the treatment of NCDs. This has been particularly prominent among the treatment of oncological conditions. Main Activities: A Neutropenia Unit will be built in the Dr. A.B. May Cancer Centre. Treatment standards and procedures will be developed and implemented. Furthermore, care takers, therapists, and doctors will be trained to successfully implement the standards. Short-Term Effects: The development of separate isolation units and the establishment of treatment standards improves the quality of care among neutropenic patients. Long-Term Effects: Long-term, the care of oncology patients in Namibia should be optimized.
