Establishment of an interdisciplinary neurooncological tumour centre

Health Partnerships – GlobalOncology
The aim of the hospital partnership between the Department of Neurosurgery at University Hospital Muenster and the Neurological Institute of Curitiba in Brazil is to establish an interdisciplinary neurooncological tumour centre. Participation in the International Cancer Centre Certification Programme is to be supported as part of this. Background: Improving the quality of cancer care is a major challenge for the Brazilian health care system due to the increasing number of cancer patients. The certification programme offers a holistic approach that shows how a tumour-specific network of medical experts can be established for every phase and every aspect of an oncological disease. Activities: - Performing an on-site assessment within the individual disciplines of neurosurgery, radiology, neuropathology and oncology on the basis of the catalogue of requirements - Providing training to four medical multipliers in Germany - Supporting the implementation of the certification requirements Impact: The establishment of interdisciplinary neurooncological care in accordance with the certification programme guidelines is intended to reduce mortality and morbidity on the one hand and to increase the quality of life for patients with tumours on the other.
