The partnership between the Klinikum rechts der Isar and the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Ghana pursues the goal of optimising emergency care at the partner hospital and thus improving medical care. Problem: The trauma unit at KATH has serious deficiencies in terms of the quality of diagnosis and treatment. In the field of emergency medicine in particular staff are not fully complying with internationally recognised quality standards. This is pushing up both complication and infection rates. Patients run a greater risk of dying during interventions. Main activities: Within the scope of the partnership, German and Ghanaian colleagues share experience and knowledge within the scope of project groups. They identify needs at KATH and stipulate common objectives in line with the conditions on the ground. In the course of teaching and training events they address these objectives with the help of partnership-based dialogue. The transfer of technical expertise takes place regularly within the scope of the evaluation of completed measures and the planning of further measures. Short-term results: The partnership is to raise the quality of emergency care for all emergency patients admitted to KATH by optimising processes. Long-term results: Cooperation partners would like to help reduce the mortality rate in Ghana and ensure appropriate care in the region.
