The partnership between the University of Münster (WWU) and Yerevan State Medical University, Armenia, aims to improve oncological care in Armenia. Problem: Cancer patients in Armenia put a particular strain on the country’s health services. This is partly because of the high proportion of smokers in the population, and partly because of the lack of any systemic screening and prevention scheme. Also many patients cannot access complex therapies because the associated costs make them unaffordable. Main activities: Within the scope of the project, an annual Spring School is to be held, with lectures and interactive case discussions, as well as professional development courses for oncology nurses. Regular video-assisted tumour conferences are to be held, and guidelines drawn up along with a national quality management programme for oncology. Short-term results: Professional development training and internships in Germany are intended to improve the care of cancer patients in the partner hospital. Long-term results: By training multipliers, the care available to cancer patients outside the partner hospital is also to be improved in the long term.
