Health Partnerships – GlobalMother and child health
Goal/Partnership/ Relevance of the Partner Institution: The birthing and prenatal diagnostics department of the Universitätskrankenhaus Bonn (Bonn university hospital) works together with the Regional Referral Hospital Keren and the Ministry of Health of Eritrea towards the improvement of health among mothers and newborns. Problem: In Eritrea, complications during pregnancy, delivery, and after birth especially in combination with limited access to quality health services can have serious consequences for mothers and children. Main Activities: The launch of the perinatal center at the Regional Referral Hospital Keren aims to expand treatment capacity. Doctors, midwives, and nurses are trained how to optimize the treatment processes and procedures including newborn diagnostics. Short-Term Effects: Through the education of medical personnel, the treatment options in the perinatal center are increased. Long-Term Effects: The perinatal center will be independently led by local health personnel.
