The partnership between the Dental International Aid Networking Organization (DIANO) and the Faculté d’Odontologie der Université d’Etat d’Haiti aim to jointly develop a concept for the improvement of dental care and hygiene in remote regions in Haiti and the Dominican Republic. Problem: In Haiti and the Dominican Republic, there are few trained dentists. Thus, dental health and hygiene is often inaccessible to large portions of the population. In addition, lacking dental equipment, far distances to dental clinics, and limited training opportunities for dentists pose further challenges. Main Activities: Within the project, a concept for the improvement of dental health in rural areas will be developed. Furthermore, the acquisition of dental equipment for mobile treatment is planned. Short-Term Effects: Through the development of a comprehensive concept for the improvement of dental health as well as the acquisition of mobile dental equipment, the dental requirements of the rural populations will be met. Long-Term Effects: The establishment of mobile treatment options, will improve the dental health of rural populations in Hispaniola.
